First 3 Things To Do If Your PC Doesn’t Start

In today’s communication-oriented world where everything can be done at the click of a mouse or a button, we find ourselves at complete loss if our PC or laptop doesn’t switch on. We might be very computer savvy and be able to use it competently but more often than not we are stumped if our computer or laptop won’t start. I have myself come across such problems innumerable times and felt helpless. So here I am going to tell you the first three simple things to do if your PC doesn’t start.

#1 Check the Power Switch and Connectors

The power switch or the connectors may not be working properly. In that case, the motherboard (MB) doesn’t get switched on. Check the power switch or power connectors, if you are using one, using a tester (or use a mosquito repellant machine – that’s what I do!!) to see if it is okay. If not, call an electrician to get it repaired or replaced, as necessary.

#2 Check the Power Cable

Your power cable might be faulty. Replace your current one to see if that is the case.

#3 Your PC Was Off For a Long Period of Time

If your PC was off for a week or more, a layer of moisture covers the PCB (Printed Circuit Board). As soon as you switch on the power, a short circuit happens and your system doesn’t start. So if you are switching on the system after a long duration, especially in humid weather, try doing one of the following and see if it works:

  • Open the cover of cabinet and apply fresh air fan for 1 hour.
  • Open the Cover of cabinet and put it in Sunlight for 1 hour.
  • Open the cover of cabinet and put it in AC room for 4 hours.
  • Open the cabinet and apply motherboard cleaner fluid (easily available in any computer hardware shop) to the motherboard.

If the above three steps fail, call a technician to look into the matter. But if you like tinkering with machines and won’t mind doing a few things yourself before calling in the experts, stay tuned for our next post.
